Payload Sway Simulator for Tower Crane Teleoperation
This study will focus on tower crane rigging manipulation, i.e., hoisting and moving heavy objects to the desired destination. Compared to other cranes, the payload sway effects are more difficult to reduce by the automatic system for tower cranes. In addition, ‘blind lift’ is a common case during tower crane operations since the operator and the payload are usually in different places. All these limitations make crane navigation tasks time-consuming and mentally demanding. However, using tower cranes to transport large and heavy containers/payload is an indispensable part of construction sites. Therefore, to tackle the aforementioned problems, this study will evaluate the proposed haptic interface under a tower crane navigation task, taking into consideration the double-pendulum effects and “blind lift” problem.
